Public restrooms in busy commercial buildings are some of the most heavily used spaces—yet often the most overlooked when it comes to design, comfort, and material quality.
For this concept study, we set out to challenge that norm—developing a women’s restroom that feels elevated, welcoming, and thoughtfully planned, while still supporting the durability and maintenance needs of a high-traffic environment.
The vision was to transform a necessary utility space into an asset to the overall experience of a facility—creating a moment of calm, beauty, and comfort in an otherwise fast-paced setting.
With multiple stalls and a large footprint, the layout emphasizes:
- Clear circulation
- Privacy and personal comfort
- Beautiful but resilient surfaces
- A unified material story from the entry to the stall interiors
The finishes pull inspiration from hospitality environments rather than traditional commercial restrooms:
- Neutral, layered tones help the space feel warm and timeless
- Stone-look flooring and quartz countertops provide high-end aesthetics with easy maintenance
- Soft metal accents introduce refinement without overwhelming the palette
- Wallcovering-inspired tile and tonal contrasts add visual interest while remaining durable and wipeable
Every surface was carefully selected to withstand continuous use without sacrificing beauty or detail.
This design incorporates thoughtful upgrades not often found in public facilities:
- Full-height partitioned stalls for improved privacy
- Integrated lighting that flatters skin tones and enhances safety
- A generous counter area with individual mirror bays to reduce congestion
- Concealed trash solutions and built-in storage to maintain cleanliness and order
We designed with inclusivity in mind—ample space, clear sightlines, and oversized accessible stalls all support a welcoming, usable environment for every visitor.
